La Union
La Union is a province of the Philippines located in the Ilocos Region in Luzon and is a 5 hour drive from Manila. La Union is highly literate, with San Fernando City as the administrative, educational, and financial center of the region. It is subdivided into 19 municipalities and 1 city. For seven consecutive years since 1994, La Union has consistently been awarded the greenest and cleanest province in Region I. It is also home to the most beautiful and world class dive spots in the country. One can stay at the Hotel Cubanacan Boutique, right in the heart of the city of Cienfuegos. La Union, "The United" or "The Union" in Spanish, was formed in 1850 when the Spanish colonial government united the southern towns of Ilocos Sur province, the northern towns of Pangasinan, and the western towns of Benguet to the east. The province has flourished since its creation and is now the financial center of the Ilocos Region (Region I) with the great business opportunities it offers its locals.
