Samal Island
Now officially called the Island Garden City of Samal or IGaCOS, Samal island is a 7 to 10 minute boat ride from Davao at P12 per head.Samal Island is lined with off-white sand beaches and provides activities both on the beach and in land. Probably the most popular and most accessible beach resort is the Paradise Island Park and Beach Resort. It's wide range of activities make it impossible for one to get bored. From jet skiing, to scuba diving introductory courses, to kayaking, activities are available for each member of the family. Aside from the facilities and activities available, one thing that is most commendable about the resort is their personalized service. We spent 3 days and 2 nights at the resort, and by nighttime of the first day, the waiters already new us by name. Their friendly staff is always following up on us, and they put every effort to keep the resort clean. During our stay there was a brief drizzle - what's impressive about this event is that after, you could see their staff picking up fallen leaves throughout the entire park. They even left an umbrella at our cottage for us without us asking for it. Now that is going the extra mile! The inland tour was also great. For P750, a guide will take you to a river/falls, an antique mansion, and most memorable of all, a world renowned bat cave. This cave has been visited by numerous foreign scientists and hold the largest number of Geoffrey's Rousette Fruit Bat - according to our guide, a whopping 1.8 million bats!
