Siargao
Siargao is home to some of the best surfing spots in the Philippines, and probably the world. This testimonial comes from surfing enthusiasts and addicts who really know their stuff. The fame of Siargao as a world class surfing destination is largely due to the success of the First International Surfing Cup in 1996. Siargao is a tear-drop shaped island situated 800 kilometers southeast of Manila. It is one of the few islands in the Philippines, together with Bohol, where tarsiers are still common. Siargao Island is relatively unheard of to many people. But for surfers worldwide, it is paradise. Known for Cloud 9, an internationally renowned surfing spot, surfers travel thousands of miles from around the globe to catch its powerful waves. Surfing has become such a big-time activity on the island that an international tournament is now held here every September. Surfing is best here from July to November when the winds and the waves are most powerful and most consistent. Siargao island may be too far for most people. Reaching
the island would take about seven hours from Manila, but all the air,
land and sea travel are part of the thrill and adventure. This makes reaching
Siargao island all the more sweet and rewarding.
