Who is qualified to do the job?

Nowadays companies want to get the best people. They have a strict hiring procedure. They make sure potential candidates have the correct skill set, mental and emotional attitude, a certain level of IQ and EQ, and they even do personal and professional background checks to see if the candidate is any good.

Everyone agree?

This got me thinking: the positions in our countries’ government are technically job positions right? These government officials are “hired” by the people to run the country. With this in mind, why can’t we have the same hiring process that companies use to make sure candidates are well qualified to do the job they are running (or “applying”) for?

Would a bank hire a doctor to become a bank teller? If a doctor were to apply, I would think the first questions HR would ask would be: Why?!? What are your intentions? What makes you think you can do the job? This does not necessarily equate to the doctor being low IQ, it’s just that he might not be qualified, based on one or more of the things mentioned above.

I would like to question why there are no such qualifications required for candidates that apply / run for government. These jobs affects the most lives in our country. Even the smallest of companies do this, why can’t the nation do this?

Someone please explain!
